Who can audition?

Any current undergraduate student at the University of Rochester is eligible to audition for After Hours.

When do you hold auditions?

Typically, we hold auditions at the start of each academic semester, around early September and mid-January. Check out our blog, upcoming events, and Facebook page for details around those times.

How do I sign up for an audition?

During audition time, there will be fliers around campus with details on signing up for auditions. There is also an A Cappella Interest Concert during Freshman Orientation – that’s the best way to learn about each group on campus and how to sign up for auditions.

Do I need prior singing experience?

It sure helps – but is by no means required! Anyone is welcome to audition.

What is the audition like?

When you arrive, you’ll do a few quick warmups. Then we’ll ask that you perform a short prepared solo for us – it’s best to pick something that is comfortable for you and shows off your vocal talent. It’s also probably best to shy away from something like opera – since we don’t sing that style of music. It’s a pretty short and painless process, so have fun with it. We’re excited to meet you!

How many new members do you take each semester?

We don’t have any quota to fill, so this varies each semester. We’re always looking to add the best voices to our group!

If I don't get in my first try, can I audition again?

Yes! If you don’t get in after your first audition, please come back and audition again. Many of our members tried out more than once before they got into the group; it’s very common.
